Badarpur 3-min grade separator

  The National Highway Authority of India has submitted a proposal to the ministry of surface transport and highways to construct a grade separator at Badarpur , a project that aims to drastically cut down travel time on the 3-km stretch .The 8-lane flyover will have a provision of 2X2 lanes at grade service road, slow moving traffic lanes and footpaths. there will be no stoppage for vehicles on he flyover. the estimated time for completion for the project is 30 months as envisaged by the consultant that prepared the report. the estimated cost of the project is Rs 267 crore. The flyover will be on built -operate-transfers (BOT) basis and the users will have to pay toll tax.
The grade separator will cover five intersections, three of which fall in Haryana and two in Delhi. The project has been designed keeping in mind the chaotic traffic situations in the area and projections for increase in traffic flow in t he future .RITES had propared the project plan for the Badarpur intersection .NHAI has approved the construction of an elevated road from 16.7 km to 19.7 km (Delhi-Agra section) of NH-2 near Badarpur. The flyover will start from the NTPC station in Delhi to sector -37 in Faridabad.NHAI officials feel the shifting if utility services will pose a challenge.

"We encountered various difficulties in carrying out the field studies. It took us over a year to prepare the project report," says a RITES official.

NHAI officials say as there will be no obstacles on the flyover, it will not take more than two to three minutes to cover the three km stretch that takes 20 to 30 minutes at present DCP Traffic, South ,P.C.Hota,hopes the recommendations made by his department to NHAI on improving traffic system near Badarpur will be taken into account before going ahead with the project." The area has a large concentration of industrial areas-Okhla Industrial Area, Mohan Cooperative Industrial areas in Faridabad. Vehicles used by workers employed in these industrial areas cant be ignored.
A large number of cyclist come from there areas. There is a bus terminus at the border that is the interchange point between Delhi and Haryana. The entire eastern stretch of the road is dotted with shops. there are semi urbanised villages also in the vicinity, he says."
